Dealing with Mental Anxiety Before Cardiac Ablation Surgery educational video.

It’s very understandable to feel mental anxiety before a cardiac ablation. Even when the procedure is planned and generally well-established, the thought of having your heart treated can feel frightening.
A few things that may help before the procedure:
- Tell your cardiologist/electrophysiology team exactly how anxious you feel. They can explain what will happen step by step and discuss options for managing anxiety before the procedure.
- Avoid repeatedly searching for complications online. It can amplify fear without giving you useful information about your individual risk.
- Use slow breathing: inhale gently for 4 seconds, then exhale for 6 seconds. Repeat for 3–5 minutes. Longer, relaxed exhalations can help settle the body’s stress response.
- Focus on the next step rather than the whole procedure. For example: “Today I only need to get ready and arrive at the hospital.”
- Write down your biggest fears and bring the list to your medical team. Often, knowing which specific fears are driving the anxiety makes them much easier to address.
- If possible, have someone you trust accompany you or be available for support around the procedure.
